At Little Box of Rocks, we believe crystals are more than just a type of rock (We envision them buzzing around like little pixies in the night.) This is why it’s so important to give them the care they deserve. After all, they’ve journeyed a long way to get to you, and we all need a bit of TLC at the end of a lengthy road trip…
Since crystals have the power to retain energy from you, other people, or the environment, it’s important to cleanse them frequently. If you’ve received a healing crystal gift from us, the very first thing you’ll want to do with them is to cleanse them of any lower energies they might have acquired on their journey to you. There are many cleansing methods, but here are some simple ways that are tried and true:
Hold your crystal under clean, running water, or place them in a glass with fresh water. Add Himalayan Rock Salt for extra assistance in clearing harmful energies. If you live near the ocean or a fresh stream, it is optimal to wash them there (natural bodies of water are recommended). Keep your intention in mind throughout this entire process so that they can be cleared of all negative energy and re-energized.
Like crystals, plants emit their own energetic vibrations. You can amplify energy by placing your crystals near growing plants. This will benefit both the plants, and your crystals.
Open up the blinds and place your crystals on a windowsill that receives radiant sunlight during the day. The Sun is a form of energy with one of the highest vibrations, therefore will benefit your crystals immensely.
If you’re feeling adventurous, try burying your crystals in a safe place in the soil, overnight. During a full moon is when you’ll gather the most energy. It is believed that the luminous power of the moon will re-charge them.
Burn either of these herbs in a heat-safe dish, while passing your crystals through the path of the smoke. It is important that you always hold the intention in your mind in order for them to be fully cleansed and purified.
And voila, it’s that easy!
Once you have programmed a crystal, it will emit the energetic frequency of your desired intention until it is re-cleansed. You can program and cleanse your stones as many times as you wish, allowing them to help you with all sorts of life’s situations, big or small. It is believed that meditating with a stone, or carrying it with you, can help you tune in to its energy and manifest your deepest wishes and most desired intentions.

Let’s talk about weddings. We know how much hard work, patience, and love goes into planning the perfect wedding for you and your partner. We also know that all you modern day Pinterest DIYers can never have too many ideas to give your wedding the perfect amount of YOU! We bet your “Wedding Ideas” Pinterest board is getting a little overflowed? (We're right aren’t we?) Fear not! This blog post is here to save your fingers a little clicking and give you crystal lovers a little insight about how to incorporate crystals into your Bohemian themed wedding in the most beautiful of ways. The rock on your ring finger isn’t the only one to bring to your big day. So here are a few ideas we can’t wait to share.
During an early event, such as the engagement party or wedding shower, introduce the idea of your crystal love by giving your guests an opportunity to offer the new couple their best wishes with Clear Quartz wedding favors. Allow your family and friends to get creative when it comes to thinking about what kind of energy they want to provide the new couple. The Clear Quartz can be programmed with any unique desire or intention, so this is the ideal gem for making wishes. (Psst.. Check out our Healing Crystal Wedding Favors and Place Cards.)
Your pre-wedding festivities and wedding day are supposed to be the most love-filled events of your life. Friends and family gather to celebrate the future couple’s happiness and unconditional love. But your bridesmaids - they have been on this journey with you since the beginning. Having a love-infused party to give back to the ones who have devoted their love to you during this time is one of the best ways to bond and create memories that will last a lifetime. Why not use the magic of healing crystals to pop the question to your bridesmaids! Our themed bouquets – like the Wildflower (New Journeys) or the Affinity (Friendship) – are completely personalized with names and a secret message, making a wonderful keepsake for years to come.
Placing crystal clusters at the end of each aisle sets the tone and unifies everyone with the same positive vibration. It also adds a memorable pop of color and eye catching shine into your venue. Connected by love (and a few happy tears if your guests are anything like us), your attendees will leave feeling enlightened and inspired by the love you are sharing with them on your special day.
Adding crystals into your decor plans is a fun way to give your wedding a more personalized feel. The gems will bring a lovely sparkle to your venue, while filling the space with positive energy as you say your vows. Different crystal decor ideas include accents on bouquets, place settings, wedding favors and centerpieces. Geodes are a wedding centerpiece favorite and gifting your guests with crystal energy will uplift their spirits and give them a unique and memorable keepsake that will bring inspiration to their daily lives.
“Something old, something new. Something borrowed, something blue.”
Sew them into your dress. Make a crystal hairpiece. Add them to your floral arrangement. Get creative. Take your blue with you throughout your big day and allow it to inspire you with its unique meaning.
Known for its connection to the angelic realms, the powdery blue Angelite can be used to help inspire divine communication. Hold this stone any time you’d like support from your angels.
The blue-green Aquamarine was carried by sailors for good luck and protection. Keep it with you to inspire courage, clarity, and faith in going with the flow of life.
The soft and wavy Blue Lace Agate is believed to help facilitate clear communication and confidence in articulating ones truth. Keep it close as a reminder to trust in and express your inner voice.
An extremely high vibration stone, the rough blue Kyanite is said to instantly align the body’s chakras. Hold this blue blade in meditation to release all emotional blockages.
The rich, royal blue Sodalite is said to help calm the mind and ease panic attacks. Look to it to inspire emotional harmony and freedom from fear in sharing your inner voice.
(Two recent graduates sharing the unfiltered, post-graduation inspiration
they wish they were told.)
Hello Gems! We’re Sydney and Brooklyn, from Little Box of Rocks, and we’re here to write a few words in hopes of helping all the semi-distressed souls going through the transition from high-school into the “real world” (Ick...) Even more importantly, we’re here to help the full-on distressed souls searching for the perfect words of wisdom to write to their beloved new graduate.
Trust us. Being fresh out of high school, the last thing your bright-eyed little Gem wants to hear is some bland and out of touch insight that they’ve heard a thousand times before. (“Reach for the stars,” anyone?) So here are a few of the things we really wanted to read in our graduation cards. Get ready to take notes.
“What do you want to do with your life?” always feels like such a loaded question, especially to those of us that haven't been planning our long road through medical school since we were in fifth grade. (Like ew blood… no thanks!) Since not all of us can be the real-life Christina Yang, a lot of us leave high school feeling like we’re already failing because we haven't picked our life plan and carved it into stone. But the truth is we don't need to! High school is such a small fraction of our lives and those graduating from it have time. No one should ever feel pressured to make a huge life-altering decision if they’re not ready for it. Deep down we know this, but it would be SO nice if you would affirm this for us.
We all know that the world is not what it used to be 20+ (or even 5+) years ago. Sure, in our parents’ day the path was usually the same. Finish high school, go to college, get a job, get a house, have a family, pay your bills, pay your bills, and pay your bills. However, for many in our generation, a life this structured is just quite simply not something that we aspire to. These days, the world is changing so quickly, and we want to be a part of it! (Heck, there are people with full-time, lucrative jobs which consist of posting YouTube videos.) So please tell us that it’s okay to follow a different path than you did.
Yes, maps are great for going where people have already gone, but we want to carve out own unique paths. After graduating is the perfect time to explore, take risks, and maybe even make a few mistakes. So please encourage us to go out and explore. Let us know that this is our time to relentlessly pursue the things that we are passionate about. Many of us are hoping to do this anyway, and your words of support will give us a much-needed boost of encouragement.
Don't get us wrong, we realize that there are things that will require more responsibility now. But please reassure us that we can continue to have a bit of child-like fun. Deep down, we’re afraid of losing this precious part of ourselves. So tell us (or better yet, show us) that we can stay kid-like for as long as our hearts desire. (After all, we’ve seen how ridiculous you can act with your friends when you think we’re not watching…)
Give us a push. We see all the ways in which you’ve become successful and we look up to you. But why not tell us about some of your failures, or opportunities that you missed? Tell us about the dreams you were too afraid to pursue and why. Currently we’re brimming with dreams and fears too, and knowing that you’ve been in our shoes might just make the difference between us taking action, or talking ourselves out of something that has the potential to be truly extraordinary.
And now for the practical: please encourage us to find a way of staying organized – and to stick to it. Better yet, tell us how YOU manage to stay organized. Life is overwhelming for a new graduate, but you’ve been through it! We’d love a few practical tips on juggling it all.
I’m sure it’s no surprise that we kind of love the fact that we don't have teachers shoving reading assignments at us on a daily basis. But this doesn’t mean that we haven’t developed a genuine love of learning. What we’d love from you are some of your favourite inspirational books, podcasts, or documentaries, so why not give us a little reading list of your own? (We promise we’ll spare you the eye-roll.)
Similar to #7, just because we don't have a school curriculum forcing physical activity on us, doesn’t mean we want to turn into couch potatoes, eating hot Cheetos in a pillow fort. (At least not every day.) We’d love to hear how you keep your body moving in a way that you enjoy.
This is new for us. After 12+ years of making friendship a primary focus, losing friends after graduating can be pretty disturbing. Please reassure us that not only is it okay to grow apart from some of our closest BFFs – but also that it’s normal, and sometimes even necessary.
As we are saying goodbye to high school, and saying hello to the rest of our lives, tell us to go out there swinging – to, if necessary, fight tooth-and-nail to honor our truest selves, and most importantly, to find our own unique brand of happiness.
Written by Alyssa Kuzins, Founder of The Journal Deck
I had just ended a 10 year relationship with someone I had been with since high school, and I had no idea who I was without him. This is when journaling really became a part of my life, and why The Journal Deck, an oracle card deck meets journal prompts, came to me as an idea that I couldn't let go of.
What does it mean to heal? What does it mean to truly love yourself? And how on earth do we get there?
Trust me, if it were easy then we would all be walking around blissfully basking in our own awesomeness. It isn't some black and white journey where one size fits all.
Self-love and healing comes to us exactly the way we need it, and exactly when we need it.
At the same time, I was also running a coaching business and assigning prompts to my clients too. It's funny, but we learn what we need to know and our clients end up teaching us so much along the way. During this summer I also led my very first yoga retreat, which was a dream come true. I was able to hire a marketing consultant to help me, I had a full list of coaching clients, I traveled to a women's yoga camp in the woods and cried once every day, I went on a girl's book tour trip to NYC, the list goes on.
Life was truly abundant.
So how did I get to this point? Well, I moved home to be with those who loved me. I prayed daily to the Universe for my partner's and my own healing, for wisdom, for signs, for protection and guidance, for abundance. And I spoke my gratitude out loud to myself to the point of tears at times (it works). Even the sunshine made me grateful. I chanted in meditation. Sa Ta Na Ma. I did yoga outside on my back deck with the warm air. I listened to the crickets in silence and stargazed on the same deck almost every night by myself. And I journaled quietly.....
I'm happy to say that this man and I got back together and are very very happy, but I am confident in saying that it was only through learning to love ourselves wholly that we could ever fully show up for the other.
1) When do I feel the most beautiful? Most sexy?
2) What do people consistently come to me for advice about? (This may be your zone of genius)
3) What does self love mean to me?
4) How can I have more compassion for myself?
5) When I "fail" at something, what is the negative story that begins playing in my head? How can I rewrite this?
6) I am not so great at.....but I feel really good about myself when.....
7) Think of a time when you were really sad, what did you truly need at that moment?
8) Think of a time when someone hurt your feelings or angered you. What insecurity did they trigger?
9) When I look in the mirror how do I feel? How do I want to feel?
10) If I was practicing deep self love, I would....
11) I feel most connected to my Truth when...
12) What still needs to heal?
13) What do I need to stop apologizing for?

(Written by YogaToday instructor, Amanda Botur)
As a yoga teacher and mom of three, I can say with relative certainty that at some point or another any mother reaches a tipping point (Editor’s note: learn more about the author, Amanda Botur). I often feel it rise in my body, starting slowly at my feet. If I leave it unchecked, it feels like an uncontrollable surge of so many different feelings and emotions that the word “overwhelm” takes on a whole new meaning. Interestingly, this is the same word expressed by mothers I work with, friends, and even my own mother. A woman’s world, a mama’s world, can get very full, very quickly. What starts as joy watching my son bake cookies for the first time ends in, “OMG what a mess!”
Tending to our own well-being and exploring self-healing can easily fall to the back burner, but here are a few helpful tips that can help us stay aligned, keeping us connected to ourselves, and our children or circumstances.
Like anything, there is a trigger that can begin the spiral of anxiety. Know your triggers, know your menstrual cycle, and take care of your hormones so those tender times of the month are cared for, and the volatility that can sometimes come with it, assuaged by good self-care. Get really good at noticing when you begin to feel anxious, and nip it in the bud by staying present and telling yourself, “I know I have a million things to do, but right now I’m making my kid’s lunch. I’m (fill in the blank) and so on.” When we identify stressors earlier in the process, we can (ideally) give ourselves the space to calm down for we are in full blown panic mode.
Practice pausing before reacting. That moment of pause can change everything, truly. Again, give yourself the space to breathe, observe, and give yourself distance between the stimulus and response. Have time for a meditation or yoga class? Join me for a 10 minute meditation or my class, Heartfelt Yin Yoga for Mamas (40 minutes) to dial down anxiety.
Clear out the cobwebs, realign, and fully inhabit your body with breath and movement. I created this class especially for mamas – it’s a 45 minute Vinyasa class designed for moms who may not have a lot of spare time but are still looking for a full body workout. We’ll get moving with a core sequence, ‘dynamic extensions,’ and Goddess Pose, winding down with a few minutes of relaxation at the end. Feel your energy rise and come out of the body to release (release, and release some more!). If you don’t have that much time, take 10 minutes to jump, run, or do a round of Sun Salutations. If you’re with your kids and yoga is age-appropriate for them, you could even try doing this Quick Energy Burn for Kids with your little guys!
Garden, draw, sing, dance! Creativity offers not only a place for us to move energy, but can create a deep sense of connection and vitality while also grounding us. While you’re doing your creative activity of choice, ask for the creative energy to clear you, nourish you, calm you, and inspire you.
Connect your feet with the earth (go barefoot, weather permitting) and feel a deep sense of exchange and support with the ground. From your feet up allow the energy to permeate your bones, your tissues, and move through your entire body. Sit down and find a comfortable cross-legged position or sit in a chair if that’s what is available to you. With your hands on your knees or thighs inhale bring the energy from the root chakra to the crown chakra and rock forward onto your sit bones. As you exhale bring the breath from the crown to the root making a C shape in the spine and draw the navel to the back body as you rock onto the back edges of the sit bones. Continue to rock and rise for as long as you have. This is deeply realigning and grounding.
Stand outside if you can, again barefoot, on the earth, if possible. Begin to soften the periphery of your eyes, taking in a wider view. Open all the senses softly, listen to the sounds around you, feel your feet solidly on the ground or floor, feel the air of the breath touch the nostrils, the tops of the lungs, notice your breath go out. With your hands in Anjali Mudra, inhale and widen your arms out to the sides and then bring them back into the center. Do the same thing, moving your arms up and down, feeling the breath and the energy move side to side, top to bottom, and back to front. Literally pull the energy in from around you and draw it into your body. While you do that, you can chant your favorite mantra or say, “I am loved. I am supported.” Sometime, I’ll even call these “love scoops.” I lead a seated version of this breathing practice at the beginning of Heartfelt Yin Yoga for Mamas and a standing version in the open moments of Total Body Tone + Releasing Sequence for Mamas. Take in the energy, feeling connected to the whole – the one breath that breathes us all!
I offer these teachings from my Mama Heart to yours. There is no greater work, no greater challenge, and no greater love than the path of motherhood. I encourage you to really ask yourself, what healing medicine do you need to give yourself today?" Take the time to consult and reset your inner compass; unwind, soften, and ultimately, make your body feel good. Allow yourself the space to let go, relax, and release residual tension. Nourish yourself on a body and soul level as often as you can!
